You Wear US Well™ is Focus of Foreign Buyer Program at MAGIC
US Department of Commerce Plays Key Role in Supporting Domestic Hosiery/Apparel Companies Immediate Release: The US Department of Commerce is organizing a Foreign Buyer Program August 28-31 in Las Vegas during MAGIC. One of its main stops will be the “You Wear US Well™“ booth sponsored by The Hosiery Association (THA), the Hosiery Technology Center (HTC), and SEAMS (The National Association for the Sewn Products Industries). ”We feel that this is a fantastic opportunity to show off the capabilities of the US industry in the areas of quality and quick delivery. This is a unique joint effort between different segments of the US sewn products industry working together for the greater good. We at the HTC are proud to be a part of this initiative,” offered Dan St. Louis of the HTC. The booth will be located in a highly visible area within the Active Lifestyle area, South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The sixteen US based apparel and hosiery companies will be exposed to foreign buyers, representatives, and distributors from all over the world recruited by the Department of Commerce (DOC) US Commercial Specialists staff from their offices in more than 150 cities overseas. Additionally, DOC will provide these participating companies access to hundreds of current international trade leads, hands-on export counseling, marketing analysis, matchmaking services, and the use of an on-site International Business Center. "The International Trade Administration (ITA) is pleased that THA and the HTC are working together with SEAMS to produce a joint exhibit promoting US-made hosiery and apparel exports at MAGIC. Thousands of foreign buyers will attend as part of ITA's Foreign Buyer Program. Thanks in part to HTC's $397,000 ITA cooperator award, my office is working with HTC and SEAMS on a wide variety of export related activities, and expects the exhibit booth to generate exports for participating companies,” commented Jim Leonard, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Textiles and Apparel, US Department of Commerce.
For the past 101 years, The Hosiery Association, through its voluntary membership, endeavors to foster a competitive advantage and economic well being for approximately 300 hosiery and sock manufacturers, marketers, distributors, and suppliers to the industry. THA supports its members worldwide and promotes the leg wear business by serving as the central resource for industry information and education, providing a conduit for resolving industry issues, and functioning as the voice of common industry concerns.
The Hosiery Technology Center was created in 1990 to enhance the core curriculum of Catawba Valley Community College by training floor level hosiery employees. During the past sixteen years, the HTC has evolved into a national resource for testing, prototyping of new products, research and development, US product sourcing, e-commerce, retail and manufacturer training, hosiery product exports, and government procurement assistance programs.
SEAMS is a 39-year-old not-for-profit association comprised of manufacturing, contract manufacturing, and supplier companies in the sewn products industry located throughout the United States. SEAMS member companies provide valuable products and services to the sewn products industry.
