Contact: Jackie Rosselli – 212.869.0670NEW YORK –
The 2007 NAUMD Image of the Year Awards, the annual competition recognizing outstanding design in image apparel and corporate uniforms, will be dramatically updated with a broader range of professional judges, and a streamlined judging process. Winners and nominee finalists will be honored at a gala Awards Banquet during the NAUMD Annual Convention in Atlanta on April 14th, at a ceremony featuring a multi-media presentation of their designs with former Newlywed Game Show Host Bob Eubanks as master of ceremonies.
“Our goal is to establish the Image of the Year Awards as the criterion of image apparel design,” said Richard J. Lerman, President of the National Association of Uniform Manufacturers & Distributors. “By engaging outstanding fashion authorities as our judges, and streamlining the judging process through an on-line web-based process, we are insuring maximum member participation and expert evaluation.”
Outstanding Judges Selected
The judging panel will include a cross-section of the fashion industry’s most celebrated designers, journalists and fashion authorities:
-
Karen Alberg Grossman, Editor-in-Chief, MR Magazine

“We are delighted to have engaged such an illustrious and respected group of fashion professionals as our judges for the 2007 Image of the Year Awards,” said John Gunzler, of Edwards Garment Company who serves as Chairman of the Image Apparel Institute Committee. “Their participation will take the entire program to the next level – and provide our members with an additional incentive to submit their most exciting designs.”
Expanded Categories for Submission
In order to insure the broadest possible range of submissions, the IOY Awards Committee has established a broader range of categories, including:
-

Members will be invited to submit entries electronically beginning in early November, via a new web-based judging process. “Our members will be able to post digital photographs of their submissions on a secure website – eliminating the need for creating time-consuming poster boards,” said Lerman. “We believe this streamlined process will encourage more companies to participate, making the competition truly representative of NAUMD’s broad membership.”
Top Designs to be Honored at Gala Awards Banquet
The top four nominees in all of categories will be honored at the Gala Awards Banquet to be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at the Atlanta Hilton Hotel. The winner in each category will be announced at the Awards Banquet by Bob Eubanks, host of the legendary “Newly Weds Game.”
“Our goal is to recognize the broadest range of design talent in our industry, and to encourage design creativity across all industry sectors,” said Gunzler. “To that end, the Gala Awards Banquet will be a celebration of the very best our industry has to offer.”
Only NAUMD member companies are eligible to participate in the 2007 Image of the Year Awards program. “All items submitted must represent live programs currently in use in the industry,” noted Lerman. “If nominated, a company must supply content for use in the multi-media presentation at the Gala Awards Banquet.”
Members will receive complete information packets on the Awards program in early November. For additional information, contact Richard J. Lerman at (212) 869-0670.
