Acme-McCrary Awarded Wal-Mart Supplier of the Year

Asheboro, North Carolina-------Acme McCrary Corporation, the Asheboro, NC headquartered leg wear producer, reported today that the company has been recognized by Wal*Mart Corporation as Supplier of the Year. Anne Marie Kehoe, General Merchandise Manager of Ladies Apparel and Accessories along with Dottie Mattison, Senior Vice-President of the Apparel Division presented the award at the Supplier Summit in New York this month. In her presentation Ms.Kehoe stated “Acme-McCrary is receiving this award because they understand what it means to be a partner to Wal*Mart. They increased business while lowering inventory and worked tirelessly with all Wal*Mart associates and systems to be sure that our customers have the products they want when they want them.”

Acme McCrary Corporation founded in 1909 will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. W. H. Redding, Jr. Chief Executive Officer stated, “The award is a wonderful recognition by the world’s largest retailer of the dedication of the company’s more than 900 employees. It is a team effort and I am proud of our associates. Wal*Mart is an outstanding retailer and to be selected by them is very exciting. Larry K Small, President said, “Awards such as this serve to say thank you to our associates from the Wal-Mart associates. Frankly, it lets our folks know that their hard work is appreciated. I suspect that it will also serve as an incentive to all of us to continue to provide what Wal-Mart wants. ”Al Beck, Vice President Sales- Wal*Mart Division commented, “It’s a great honor and certainly confirmation of the hard work the entire company has performed over the years. I’m especially pleased for my team who knows what it takes to supply the largest and most challenging retailer in the world.”

Acme McCrary is the largest private label producer of women’s leg wear, shape wear and seamless active wear in the USA. The company also produces and distributes men’s and children’s leg wear. The company operates in five plants located in Asheboro, NC, Siler City, NC and in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. A sister company, Sapona Manufacturing Company, Incorporated, located in Cedar Falls, NC supplies a significant quantity of raw materials used by Acme McCrary to manufacture products.

J.C. Penney Company honored Acme-McCrary, of Asheboro, on May 14th as its Supplier of the Year for Intimate Apparel and Hosiery at its annual Supplier Summit in Dallas, Texas.

When presenting the award, Shari Whitson, Divisional Merchandise Manager for the Penney Company, noted that Acme-McCrary, a supplier for nearly 60 years, had helped launch a new product line, executed a re-launch of Penney’s Sheer Caresss, controlled inventory while changing packaging, had an OQL of 4.4, had a compliance metric score of 99.5%, and had a scorecard grade of A.

Ms. Whitson and Cindy O’Connor, Executive Vice-President of Penney, added, “They (Acme) make my job easier and more enjoyable. They constantly set out to be the best and the number one hosiery supplier.”

Bill Redding, CEO of Acme-McCrary; Larry Small, President; and Ellen Silverman, Divisional Vice-President; were on hand to receive the award on behalf of the company’s nearly 900 employees.

Mr. Redding said, “This award recognizes the loyal dedication of all of our employees. We are proud of our associates and most appreciative of our longstanding relationship with the J.C. Penney Company.”

Mr. Small added, “Once again Acme-McCrary and its employees lived up to expectations and Acme’s long tradition of excellence. It seems so trite to say, and yet it is true that it takes everyone working together to accomplish such things. We are honored to be associated with co-workers who constantly reach such heights, and we are flattered that such a venerable company as J.C. Penney would see fit to recognize us.”

Mrs. Silverman, Acme’s Account Executive for J.C. Penney, said,” I am thrilled to work with such a great group of dedicated employees who support the J.C. Penney business every day. I am proud to work with J.C. Penney, a winning retailer, and I thank them for this honor.”

Acme’s facilities are located in Asheboro, Siler City and San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Founded in 1909 the company is in the planning stages now for its one hundredth anniversary next year.
