Product Developer – Socks
Location: SmartWool, Chattanooga, TN
Position Overview: Develop and commercialize assigned product within margin targets while maintaining product integrity. Maintain accurate systems information (PDM for example) to ensure on-time approval as well as achieve product integrity within assigned category
Major Responsibilities:
Execution and Development of Product
• Ensure that input to category team is valid, timely and sufficient
• Constant interaction with mills to understand and address the major development and commercialization issues that arise
• Work with sock team and mills to provide effective transition of sock designs through prototyping, commercialization and timely confirmation for production
• Effectively challenge current processes to ensure efficiencies
• Work closely with QA, Testing, and all related partner functions to balance costing and delivery pressures with performance and quality needs
• Manage cost to achieve margin goals while maintaining product integrity; proactively communicate margin issues to the category team
• Initiate/maintain accurate PDM cost data
• Identify S/S liability potential and strive to minimize; follow agreed process
• Maintain accurate records of all communication to assure smooth work flow, timely approvals, problem resolution
• Ensure that all construction approvals meet development calendar deadlines (95% or greater)
• Provide on time Catalog descriptions/product bullet points
Sales and Forecast Meeting Samples
• Expedite S/S approvals and receipt through timely intervention
• Reduce overall sample cost by timely interaction with merchandising and sample vendor to identify exact need
• Commit to sales sample quantity as needed to ensure on time delivery
• Monitor approval status via development WIPs to ensure on time delivery
• Report on “On-time sample status” to Management
• Track and deliver sales samples against calendar dates (95% or greater)
• Provide on time Sales Sample discrepancy list
Leadership
• Actively participate as required in new systems task force(s) to determine systems upgrade and/or process enhancement
• Ensure one’s own understanding of corporate goals
• Additional duties as required
Qualifications: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
• Minimum five years industry experience
• Strong communication, problem solving and analytical skills required
• Fluency in English required
• Strong computer skills necessary
• Ability to travel as required
• Must be adept at handling multiple priorities and time sensitivities
• Must have the ability to develop relationships within the industry and across cultures
