was founded in 1992. Currently, its membership includes 17 independent textile research
and testing institutes with offices in over 40 countries.
Over the past 15 years, an Oeko-Tex label on apparel has become synonymous
with ‘confidence.’ Consumers around the world recognize that an Oeko-Tex certified garment
means it has been tested and proven to be free from harmful substances.
To date, more than 60,000 certificates have been issued and 8,000 companies in 84 countries
are working with Oeko-Tex to ensure that their products are tested
for potentially harmful substances.
-
The ‘green’ movement, combined with the growing influence of the LOHAS
(lifestyle of health and sustainability) consumer, has begun to re-shape how U.S. retailers communicate with not only their consumers but with their supply base as well.
